Past Due Accounts

Students studying for credit at Georgetown are allowed to maintain a debit balance throughout the semester in which they are currently enrolled. If a student chooses to maintain a debit balance past the due date, he or she will be charged a non-payment penalty, as well as a service charge on the outstanding balance each month it remains past due.
Students with past due balances will have a hold put on future registration action no later than November 1st (Fall Balances) and April 1st (Spring Balances).
It is the student's responsibility to review the Student Account on MyAccess. It is also the student's responsibility to keep a current billing address listed on MyAccess. Through the act of registration, the student implicitly agrees to settle any charges stemming from registration.
Students whose balances remain past due 30 days after the currently enrolled term has ended will have their accounts sent to a collection agency. Agency fees of 33% of the account balance will be assessed when the account is turned over to the agency. Additionally, a service charge of 1.75% of the outstanding balance will be assessed monthly until the balance is paid in full. Credit Bureaus will also be notified.
Once the account has been referred to a collection agency, all arrangements for payment must be made through the agency. Agency fees will not be forgiven. |
